Happy Autumn from the Mood Swings!
The leaves are falling, the pumpkins are ripe - it must be fall! Usually this is a time for slowing down and thinking about winter, but not for The Mood Swings. We've had a busy summer filled with new tunes and new performances. Did you see us at the Wallingford Farmers Market, or Shoreline's Central Market? We're planning all kinds of events for this fall as well, including a night of lindy hop with the UW Swing Kids!
Have you seen our new website? Our new look includes new photos, video, and new ways to get in touch with your moody side. Also, our debut CD, In a Vocal Mood, is available for the low price of $10 including shipping! We're running low on this one, so order it now before they're all gone.
We've been up to our spit valves with paperwork too - we're currently applying for nonprofit status to help spread the love of jazz among girls in the Puget Sound area. Check out our mission statement to learn more. Soon you'll be able to support The Mood Swings tax free!
Song Spotlight
Blue Rondo a la Turk is a Dave Brubeck tune that the Mood Swings play when we're feeling adventurous. Brubeck is famous for his tunes in strange time signatures, like his classic Take Five. Blue Rondo starts in 9/8 time, and switches back and forth to the more common 4/4 time throughout the piece. He was inspired both by the Mozart piece Rondo alla Turca and Turkish street musicians.
Member Profile
Paula Cusano is our skin-pounding drummer. If anyone can keep us Mood Swings in line, it's Paula! You may have heard her Gene Krupa-like solo on Sing Sing Sing. Outside of the band, Paula owns a canine care business, and volunteers with the Special Olympics. Her husband John can be heard on our debut CD, In a Vocal Mood. Say "hi" to Paula at our next performance!
